October in Wisconsin has a way of announcing itself without checking the calendar. You can feel it in the air—the humidity fades, flannel shirts reappear, and pumpkin spice finds its way into everything, even dog treats. The breeze gets crisper, the Packers keep us cheering (or groaning), and thermostat arguments quietly begin.
This is autumn in Wisconsin, and it always brings more than just seasonal changes—it brings spiritual reminders too.

Watching the Leaves Teach Us About Letting Go
Every fall, I find myself drawn to the trees. Right now, they are the most beautiful residents in our community—dressed in fiery reds, golds, and oranges, with no fear of the winter ahead.
Instead of resisting change, they seem to celebrate it.
They throw a final burst of color, a joyful surrender, before letting go of what’s no longer needed.
Meanwhile, we’re raking, bagging, and trying to tame the chaos of fallen leaves, wishing we had their grace when it comes to change.

What Are You Still Holding Onto?
Watching the trees always makes me think.
What are the things in our own lives that we’re still holding onto—long after their time has passed?
It might be:
- A grudge
- A regret
- A worry that circles your mind daily
- A fear that’s keeping you from moving forward
The trees show us that letting go isn’t giving up—it’s an act of faith.
Letting go means making space for rest and future growth. It means trusting that God is still working, even when things are bare or quiet.

Embracing the Season of Change as a Church
At Blessed Hope Church, we live in rhythms and seasons too.
This month begins with World Communion Sunday, a time when Christians around the world share in a sacred meal.
It’s a reminder that:
- We’re not alone
- Other believers are in different seasons—some joyful, some painful, some still
- We are all part of one global family of faith
No matter what season you’re in, you’re held by the same strong roots—God’s love and grace.

A Simple Prayer for October
So here’s my prayer for you this month:
Go outside.
Take a walk.
Look up.
Notice the beauty that doesn’t apologize for change.
Let the falling leaves remind you it’s okay to let some things go. Trust the One who made the trees and paints the skies at sunset.
And if all else fails, give yourself permission to laugh at one more pumpkin spice commercial.
With blessings and gratitude,
Pastor Rob
