There’s a certain buzz in the air this time of year. September brings cooler mornings, yellowing leaves, and the familiar rhythm of back-to-school season.
Even if you haven’t cracked open a textbook in years, this time still stirs something in us. Maybe it reminds you of fresh notebooks, sharpened pencils, or the thrill of seeing old friends after summer break.
I still remember the smell of the old mimeograph machine and the joy of discovering something new.
But let’s be honest—most of us haven’t sat behind a school desk in decades.
We’re Never Done Learning
Maybe your “homework” now is figuring out how the TV remote works—or trying to remember where you left your reading glasses. But even if we’ve left the schoolroom behind, we’re still students.
As followers of Christ, we are part of a lifelong school of faith.
Our classroom isn’t made of desks and chalkboards. It’s made of church pews, community, prayer, worship, and the Word.
Our textbook is the Bible—and every time we open it, we find new lessons waiting.
Faith Is a Lifelong Education
There’s no final exam at the end of a sermon.
No one takes attendance.
The dress code? Whatever you’re wearing is fine.
And the best part?
We don’t learn alone.
We learn together as a church family. We grow side by side—encouraging, forgiving, supporting, and praying for one another.
Each week, we learn something new:
- How to be more patient
- How to show grace
- How to love as Christ loves us
Just like we once memorized math tables or state capitals, we’re now learning something far more lasting—the way of Christ.
Let This Season Inspire You Spiritually
As the school buses roll out and the seasons begin to change, let’s treat this fall not just as a time of watching from the sidelines—but as a time to recommit to growing in faith.
You can:
- Swap your lunchbox for an open Bible
- Trade homework for a moment of prayer
- Invite someone to church
- Join a study group or small group
- Simply ask, “What is God teaching me today?”
Whether you’re 8 or 88, you’re still enrolled in the greatest school of all: the school of God’s love.
With blessings—and with deep thanks for all that you teach me,
Pastor Rob
